Stoicism as Philosophical Psychotherapy

English Psychotherapist Donald Robertson has written an interesting paper on the usefulness of Stoic concepts in Psychotherapy. His paper can be read by clicking the link HERE. Thanks to Steven Leysen on the International Stoic Forum for informing me (and the other members) of it!

  1. I've stumbled across this connection myself recently in my own reading. What's most fascinating is the deep similarity between stoic phsychology and modern cognitive therapy (i.e. the kind that works!)

Given their perennial value and contemporary scientific acceptance, and given the contrasting harmfulness of the attitudes of modern popular culture... wouldn't it be wonderful if CBT-stoicism was taught in schools!?

  2. Hey David - thanks for reading :)

Indeed, it also would be wonderful if philosophy in general were taught in elementary and high schools (at an age-appropriate level of course).
